Raw Footage

The footage here is from two different camera's I have therefore kept it separate to show this.

This camera has a different view range to the other camera's which could be good with our different girls with different camera's theme however if it changes to often within the trailer it can seem inconstant.

Update 12

Today we went filming. We had a little difficulty getting the two girls together on the same day so we have decided instead that only one girl will be hung whereas the other will be found dead in a clearing.

Later today I will post the raw footage from that filming session.

Update 10

Today Charlotte and I recorded the heavy breathing that features towards the end of our trailer. I then put it onto Final Cut Pro, rendered it and fit it to the trailer and timings.

Charlotte is doing another horror trailer timeline and I am also going to do another one. Then we shall have a look at how our trailer currently plays out in accordance to this and in turn edit it so that it fits the convention of a trailer.

Still to do:

  • Edit the character profile for Katie to fit with the new actress.
  • 2nd Timeline
  • Film the long shot that goes before the first clip seen on our storyboard
  • The 3 media students going into the woods
  • Meeting the other girls
  • Film the girls being hung,
  • The girls in the shed,
  • The door from the inside of the shed
  • A pan of the woods
  • Camera lying on its side on the ground and the killer appearing
  • Add the static/'Fuzz'
In the trailer we want it to start out with quite light tones, indicating that the scenes are happy and carefree. Then as the trailer progresses it will get darker to show tension and to increase the 'scary' factor.

Update 9

I have taken some pictures of the text from the trailer  straight from final cut pro to show what it would look like and to show me using the software.

Update 8

After doing the timelines we realised that a lot of the 'Documentary' style films had screens with text on at the beginning that set the scene. So we have decided to add in some scene setting text at the beginning of ours.

There will be 3 screens of text at the beginning of our trailer. They will say:
  • In The UK Roughly 552 People Are Murdered Every Year...
  • Every Year About 60 Of These Murders Are Unsolved...
  • About 40 Of These Are NEVER Solved...
I got this information off of a study done by the telegraph done in 2011. It was the most recent information I could find.

I will be adding these screens in Today.

Revised Storyboard

On these storyboards I have ticked what we have already filmed and edited, written dates for filming/recording some parts and written about extra's we've added to the trailer.

Update 7

In the storyboard we have a broken ankle. It is not possible for us to actually break an ankle so we had to think about ways we could get around this.

We have decided that we will just have to put my ankle in an 'odd' and uncomfortable position and have a loud snap in the background.

Timeline of Willow Creek

This timeline shows the timings through which the trailer 'Willow Creek' follows. This will help us to get a better idea of how our trailer should be laid out. Below is the trailer.

Raw Footage

Update 6

One of our actresses, Katie, has had to be swapped due to the fact she is going on holiday over half term when we planned to do most of our filming. We have found a replacement and I will create a character profile for her.

Fake Blood - Props

Update 5

Today I did some filming. The scenes I did were of the detective talking about finding the bodies. Later I will film it off of the T.V as well to give us another way of seeing the news, showing how widespread the news has gone. I also filmed the newspaper scene which just emphesises the spread of news.

Potential Name Design - Audience Feedback

This graph shows the designs we showed to the audience and which ones were their favourites. As a result of these results we are going to combine two of the designs. These are design number 4 and design number 8 as these were the two favourites.

The Original Designs and the final design can be found on Charlotte's blog.

'OurSpace' - Props for the trailer

http://nicolemargetts.wix.com/ourspace

This is the website 'OurSpace' which we have created to post the bodies on. We felt it inappropriate to post them on an actual social media website. It only has 3 of the girls pages as that's all we need for our trailer.

Arranging Thursday Filming

This is a convorsation Charlotte and I had last night about where, what and when we would be filming on thursday.

Update 5

Today I worked on the social media websites where the girls 'bodies' are to be posted. I am using the website maker Wix.com in order to give the website and authentic feel. I still need to add relevent images but will be doing that at home.

Tonight Charlotte and I are going to discuss potential scenes we can film this coming Thursday (17th October) that include just the two of us. We shall do this via email.

In tomorrows lesson we are going to work on the design for the name of our film. We have a few sketches of how 'Hunted' is going to look but we need to finalise that.

After Thursday we can begin editing the footage we have and therefore making progress towards the rough cut deadline.

Also based on Mrs D's feedback we are going to timeline a couple of RMA's and then based on that create a timeline for our trailer and also look into having a couple of first person shots at the beginning of the trailer too.

Mrs D

Well done Nicole. You have used a good variety of ICT and your planning is detailed and thorough. You have got some good ideas in your storyboard. I like the POV camera shots - maybe get one in there earlier when they start the filming. I like the use of fragmentation of the killer's body. Go back to the criteria and make sure you have hit level 3/4. Also you need to work on the structure. Do the time line task for your RMAs to support this.

Final Design

I have added an advert at the bottom of the page so that there is less empty space on the page. I have also added the name of the 'author' of the story who I have called 'Jon Nurse'.

Newspaper Construction 3

I have now added the name of the main news story '5 Girls Found Dead' and the news story, which can be found in an earlier post.

Newspaper Construction 2

I have now added some more 'Inside Stories' but these ones have snippets of the story as well. These stories also have corresponding page numbers as to where you can find them within the paper.

Newspaper Construction 1

This is the beginning of my newspaper front page. i have created a banner across the top of 'Inside stories', the name of the paper 'The Crowthorne Times' and a small banner underneath that reads 'Unrivaled Coverage Of The Borough, Incorporating Wokingham, Woodly and Twyford News'.

Newspaper Original Photos

These are the images I used in creating the newspaper before they were edited. All the images were cropped a little throughout the making of the newspaper in order to make them fit better. I have also edited the coloring in the 'Troll' image making it black and white.

Update 4

Today we came up with a way of hanging the girls, without actually hanging the girls. The drawing below shows how we plan to go about this.

This shows the two nooses being hung from a low branch so the girls can stand on the ground and just make the top half of their bodies go limp. The shot will show them from about waist height up. This will mean that the shot will be a lot closed to the girls, because of this we have to take in to accout the small details of how the girls look. For example bruising around their necks, cuts on their faces and how were they restrained before they were hung.

Story For Newspaper

FIVE GIRLS found dead today after images of their bodies were posted on their  ‘Our Space’ accounts.
Victims Charlotte Wells (18), Jane Turner (17) and Nicole Margetts (17) were media students at local 6th form Edgbarrow. They were in the woods filming for their A-level project. How they came upon the other two victims, Lydia Cutting (17) and Katie Cox (17), is yet unknown.

The families of Lydia and Katie are desperate to know why the girls where in the woods as they were supposed to be at their friend Sasha’s birthday party.

Stephen Margetts, Nicole’s father, gave us this statement “We just want to know what happened to our daughter”.

The images where posted to the girls accounts, by the murder, from the girls phones between the times of 23:30pm and 2:40am.

Police have told us that they are currently going through the footage on the cameras three of the girls had with them. Having no other leads to go on currently. They have also issued a warning to all the families in the area, urging them to be careful when going out at night.

Driving past the woods  where the girls were murdered you find an incredibly moving scene. Flowers, cards and pictures litter the floor and trees going continuing on as far as the eye can see.

Tonight we will see a ceremony held in memory of the girls. Hundreds of friends and family will be marching from the girls homes and schools to the woods.

Laura Butcherman, Katie’s best friend, told us exactly what tonight means to her. She said “We plan to light candles when we get to the woods, all of us, to show them that we will remember them and that their lights will never go out in our hearts. They may be gone physically but we will ALWAYS love them.”

For the families, all they want is closure. They want to bury the girls and sleep sounder at night knowing that the man who murdered them is behind bars. However until this man is caught the girls must be preserved, unable to  rest in peace.

Update 3

After reviewing our trailer idea we stumbled upon a few potential problems. These were:
  1. We can't actually hang the girls so how do we make that look realistic?
  2. We still need to find a shed or small building for a couple of the scenes
As a solution to the second problem we have decided to see if one of the sheds at my house might do. I will be taking pictures of these tonight and posting them tomorrow. The first problem however, still needs a little bit of work.

Things to do:
  1. Make a news paper front page
  2. Create the social media accounts
  3. Design the title of the film

Update 2

We managed to meet our deadline this week and I am happy with the overall work we produced. From now on we will be working on the filming and construction of our trailer.
  1. We are going to choose some potential filming dates
  2. Organise the days
  3. We are going to give our actresses the breif for costumes
We have made the decision to change the news reporter to a detective and have her as the main character so the audience lives this story with her. This will mean adding in a couple more clips with her in so we will be posting a revised storyboard/animatronic storyboard that includes these additions.

We have sourced a couple of nooses for the clips where the girls are hung but still have to aquire some fake blood or water and food colouring.

Skills Development

3 Influential Trailers

'The Interview' trailer is influential to me because:
  1. I like the first person filming as it gives an air of realism to the trailer.
  2. I also like the documentary style adopted by this trailer again making the it feel more real
  3. One part of this trailer has a camera lying on its side, we liked this style of filming and have used it a couple of times in the trailer.
  4. I also like the use of the time and date in the bottom corner when first person filming is applied

The 'My Amityville Horror' trailer is influential to my trailer in a few ways. These are:
  1.  It has a reporter speaking in the background at times helping to make the trailer flow.
  2. I also like how it shows news paper cuttings, increasing the realism.

'The Collection' trailer has given us a couple of idea's. For example:
  1. The mise en scene in this trailer is good and relevent to our film, for example the party goers outfits and the mask of the killer.
  2. It has a few first person clips from interesting angles and through objects.
  3. The way the name of the film fades onto the screen is also quite cool.

Pitch Feedback

The audience to our pitch gave us some feedback on our idea's. Their Feedback was:
  • There are no copyright issues
  • An original idea
  • Need to create or keep someone alive for a character the audience can relate too
  • Good ideas
  • The audience liked the ideas for the camera angles in some points of the trailer/film
In order to develop upon our ideas using the feedback given Charlotte and I discussed the following:
  • Turning the News Reporter into a detective - this will be the character the audience connects to and we will follow most of the story with her.
  • We would continue with the interesting camera angles
  • The fact that there are no copyright issues are good

Mrs D

Well done with your pitch Nicole. Keep up the good work. Put some feedback up on your blog from your pitch soon.
